For value-for-money residential and small commercial AC, Hisense offers excellent inverter technology at 30-40% lower upfront cost than Japanese brands. Daikin and Mitsubishi sit between the two. Rough sizing for Sri Lankan conditions: 9,000 BTU covers up to 14 m² (small bedroom, single office), 12,000 BTU covers up to 18 m² (master bedroom, mid office), 18,000 BTU covers up to 28 m², 24,000 BTU covers up to 35 m² (small showroom, restaurant zone), 36,000 BTU covers up to 50 m², and 48,000 BTU covers up to 70 m². These are baseline — actual sizing factors in ceiling height, sun-facing windows, occupancy and equipment heat. Our HVAC engineers do a full heat-load calculation as part of every commercial quote.
For any AC running more than 4 hours a day, inverter AC pays back the price premium within 2-3 years through electricity savings. Sri Lanka's high tariff makes the math even more favourable than India or Bangladesh. Non-inverter AC only makes sense for very low-usage applications (e.g. occasional-use spare bedroom).
